Worksheets

Questions:

2.  Active Reading Recognizing Author's Purpose  With a small group of classmates, compare the notes you recorded in your Reader's Notebook. As a group, decide on Allende’s main purpose for writing the excerpt. What secondary purposes might she have had?

3.  How would you describe Allende as a writer?

      Think About:

  • how she sets up her environment as she begins
  • her decision to write about “the disappeared”
  • her use of personal interviews rather than library research

The Second Coming Extra Credit

TPCASTT The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats. Be sure to read the notes provided. I have written an analysis statement for you. Please use one example from the text that would support this statement. You must explain it; be detailed and specific.  Do not be afraid to utilize outside sources for this activity. Just be sure you use MLA format to cite any source used.

LITERARY ANALYSIS STATEMENT:
In the poem "The Second Coming", William Butler Yeats utilizes
symbolism in order to develop allegory.

If you are not sure what I mean by allegory or symbolism, please review your Literary Terms Glossary.

This is due when you walk in the door on Monday morning.

What is literature?

Our first task as a class is to determine what literature is, and what it is not. In order to do this well we must make our selves more knowledgeable on what others determine literature to be. Please review these articles before coming to class on Friday, August 24th. Bring to class your notes or annotations of the articles and your 1-2 sentence definition of the article.

Articles for Review:
Webster's Definition
What is literature?
What is Literature and What Can Be Gained by It?
Literature 101: Really, what is literature?

Welcome!
